Courthouse Tours

School tours are a great opportunity for students to learn about the history of the courthouse, while having fun participating in a mock trial.

Individual class groups take turns in visiting the courthouse, with an unsuspecting student from each class being put on trial. They are then taken out to the lockup in a ball and chain by one of their fellow classmates. Our courthouse volunteers run the mock trial as judges, while providing great insight to how trials were run in the courthouse many years ago. The antics are fun for students, teachers, and parents alike.

School tours can be arranged on request.

Volunteer Acknowledgements

The Mornington Peninsula Shire holds National Volunteer Week Appreciation events in conjunction with Frankston City Council annually. In previous years, the mayor in office has presented our valuable volunteers each with a certificate of appreciation and thanked them all for their ongoing efforts.

NMPT also thanks our volunteers for all their hard work and we appreciate everything they do in running the Mornington Courthouse Visitor Centre. The Courthouse wouldn’t be able to operate without our dedicated volunteers.

Volunteer Familiarisation Visits

NMPT arranges familiarisation visits and tours for our Courthouse Visitor Centre volunteers, providing them a personal experience and knowledge they can refer to when tourists are looking for recommendations of places to visit on the Mornington Peninsula.

Places our volunteers have visited include:

  • Pure Peninsula Honey
  • Stumpy Gully Vineyard
  • The Big Goose
